Life has a way of throwing you curveballs you never see
coming. One minute you're behind the camera, capturing your teenage
son's goofy grin as he clowns around with his friends, the next you're
faced with a diagnosis that steals your breath away – AML Leukemia. That's
the reality that shattered our world.
The days that followed were a whirlwind. Hospital
visits became our new normal, chemo treatments became his daily
battle, and the roller coaster of emotions threatened to break
us. Seeing my strong, funny boy struggle with fear and isolation on
top of the physical challenges was a mother's worst nightmare. The sterile
walls of WVU Children's Hospital,though filled with amazing doctors and
nurses, couldn't erase the loneliness that shadowed him.
But even in the darkest hours, there were glimmers of
hope. His unwavering faith, the incredible care from the medical
staff, and the grace of God kept us
afloat. Slowly, thankfully, with treatment and time, he started
to thrive again.
However, the emotional toll of the experience stayed
with me. The image of countless other children facing similar
battles, fighting not just the physical disease but also the emotional
one, wouldn't leave my mind.
That's where the idea for Battle Buddy Bears was
born. As a photographer, I've always understood the power of
connection and the comfort a simple image can bring. But as a mother who
witnessed her son's struggle, I wanted to create something more. A
loyal friend, an emotional support of strength. A furry companion who
could offer a hug on a tough day, whisper words of encouragement, and
be a constant reminder that they are not alone.
Today, I'm not just a photographer and entrepreneur,
I'm a mom on a mission. My mission is to equip children facing
medical challenges with the emotional support they need to fight their
battles. Battle Buddy Bears are a testament to the resilience of the human
spirit, a light of hope stitched with love.
This isn't just about my story; it's about every courageous
child warrior out there. It's about creating a world where No Child
Battles Alone!
